F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography Scan: A Case Report

چکیده
Background: Hibernoma is a rare, benign, soft tissue tumor arising from brown fat that cannot be distinguished from other lipogenic tumors on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. On the other hand, the image of hibernoma on 18 Ffluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography ( 18 F-FDG-PET) is different from that of other lipogenic tumors. However, fewer studies have investigated the typical features of hibernoma on PET scans. We present the case of a hibernoma that was incidentally detected on 18 F-FDG-PET. Case Presentation: A 48-year-old Asian man underwent 18 F-FDG-PET for routine follow-up of gastric cancer. The patient reported a painless soft mass on the upper arm that had persisted for several years. On 18 F-FDG-PET, the mass showed a maximum standardized uptake value of 9.6. The mass showed high intensity on T1and T2-weighted MRI scans, and showed focally enhanced septa after gadolinium administration. Histopathologically, the mass was composed of brown adipose cells characteristic of hibernoma. His postoperative course was uneventful, and there was no local recurrence at the final 24-month follow-up. Conclusion: Hibernoma showed strong uniform accumulation on 18 F-FDG-PET, suggesting that 18 F-FDG-PET would be a useful modality for the differential diagnosis of hibernoma versus other lipogenic tumors. © 2016 The Author(s) Published by S. F-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography for the diagnosis of Takayasu's arteritis in stroke: a case report
INTRODUCTION Diagnosis of Takayasu's arteritis as the cause of stroke is often delayed because of non-specific clinical presentation. F-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography may help to accurately diagnose and monitor Takayasu's arteritis in stroke patients. CASE PRESENTATION We report the case of a left middle cerebral artery stroke in a 39-year-old man. Labo...
متن کاملF-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography: a case report
Introduction: This case of giant cell arteritis is noteworthy because it evaded standard diagnostic criteria and only emerged as fever of unknown origin. In this regard, we present F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography as a valid diagnostic method. Case presentation: This case report describes a 58-year-old Caucasian woman who is a cigarette smoker with a 10-week history of fever of...
متن کاملA case of skeletal tuberculosis and psoas abscess: disease activity evaluated using 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography
BACKGROUND Psoas abscess complicating tuberculous spondylitis is a rare morbidity in extrapulmonary tuberculosis. There are no established guidelines for evaluating the clinical response of psoas abscess. Although several studies have shown that positron emission tomography-computed tomography with 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose can play a potential role in diagnosing multifocal tuberculosis and monit...
متن کاملUnusual positron emission tomography findings in pulmonary amyloidosis: a case report
Positron emission tomography (PET) has come to play an increasingly important role in the evaluation of pulmonary lesions, which are suspicious of malignancy. As is true for other techniques, PET gives false positive and negative results. We report a case of pulmonary amyloidosis with multiple pulmonary nodules showing different uptake of 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) on PET. There are limitati...
متن کاملEarly finding of chest wall metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma in a woman by fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography scan: a case report
INTRODUCTION The use of fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography to evaluate well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinomas is facing critical problems. It is reported that the activity of fluorodeoxyglucose-6-phosphatase, which converts fluorodeoxyglucose-6-phosphatase to fluorodeoxyglucose, is high in normal liver cells. However, the enzyme-converting activity of glucose-6-phosphatase o...
